  • The much-hyped case of alleged fraud lodged against Samajwadi Party (SP) general secretary Amar Singh in Kanpur took a new turn today with the Uttar Pradesh DGP Headquarters transferring the investigation to the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Uttar Pradesh Police.

It was on Monday evening that the ADG (Law & Order) Brij Lal had declared that the case would be investigated by the SHO of Babupurwa police station in Kanpur, where the FIR was lodged on October 15.

Kanpur DIG B P Jogdand said, “I have received orders from the DGP Headquarters this evening to send the case details and the related documents to the EOW Headquarters, Lucknow. The same would be dispatched to the wing in the next two days.”

The Uttar Pradesh Police had, earlier, transferred the case registered against Amar Singh, his wife Pankaja Singh, Amitabh Bachchan and others to Kolkata police on October 17.

The Kolkata police refused to investigate the case and sent it back to Kanpur three days ago.
