A city court framed charges against four persons on Saturday for alleged forgery,cheating and other offences and for illegal phone tapping of former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh in 2005. Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Kaveri Baweja charged Bhupinder Singh,Vijay,Kuldeep Singh and Anurag Singh under Sections 420 (cheating),471 (forgery) and 120B (conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code. The CMM also found them prima-facie guilty of offences under the Indian Telegraph Act. With the framing of charges,the trial against the four accused persons is formally to start. The court fixed July 19 as the next date for recording of statement of witnesses in the case. Earlier,the court had on January 22 reserved its order on framing of charges against the four accused. A case was registered by the Delhi Police Special Cell on December 30,2005 after allegations that Singhs phone was tapped by some unscrupulous elements. During investigations,the police arrested Bhupinder Singh,who used to run a detective agency,Vijay,Kuldeep Singh and Anurag Singh for allegedly forging letters of the then joint commissioner of police and the home secretary of Delhi government to tap the phone of Amar Singh. The accused also allegedly contacted the Samajwadi Party leader and some media houses in order to sell the tapped telephonic conversation records.
