Azam Khan, the Muslim face of Samajwadi Party,on Friday took strong exception to his estranged party colleague Amar Singh’s reference about him during an election rally in Lucknow saying that it was laced with threats against him.
“Amar Singh threatened that he would become the third eye of Lord Shiva and destroy me. It clearly indicates his ill will… as it could either be my political destruction or physical one or both,” Khan said from Rampur.
“Use of such a derogatory and undignified language in politics also suggests that whatever he is aiming for is below the belt,” Khan said adding there was a clear threat to him and his family in his (Amar) speech.
Khan, who has been keeping a low profile in the party, alleged that Amar Singh chose a BJPRSS-dominated Dhakia village in Shahabad tehsil to spill venom against him and tried every trick to instigate the Hindus residing there.
Over the past several days there have been a flow of people, who claim to be the associates of mafia don Abu Salem, and over 700 so called ulemas both from UP and Maharashtra in Rampur,Khan said.
“These people have been camping in the city and I fear that it could even spoil the atmosphere of the town as they are luring the local youths into some wrong deeds and the district administration needs to take stern measures against them,” Khan, said.
Khan said he has already written a letter to the district administration in this regard and also demanded the Election Commission to keep a special eye in Rampur which goes to poll on May 13.
On Amar Singh,Khan said that after his Thursday’s speech he (Khan) has started “pitying” with Amar who seems to be giving statements which were not “very normal” in nature and would also pray to god that his health improved.
Khan said that he would not demand any security in view of his perceived threat after yesterday’s speech.
On Amar Singh’s assertion that he was expecting a “shoe” as a gift from him,Khan said that he could never go to that extent.
Meanwhile, when asked about the alleged tussle between the supporters of Azam Khan and Jayaprada, the SP candidate for Rampur Lok Sabha seat,Rampur SP Jyoti Narayan said an FIR has been lodged and further action will be taken after ascertaining the fact.
