Ambedkar Sports Award for MHA secy Ikram Khan

Ikram Khan,Secretary of the Maharashtra Hockey Association,has been elected to receive the prestigious Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Sports Award for his contribution to the sport of hockey in the state.

Ikram Khan,Secretary of the Maharashtra Hockey Association,has been elected to receive the prestigious Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar Sports Award for his contribution to the sport of hockey in the state. Khan’s association with the sport goes all the way back to 1976,when he was selected for the All India University Hockey Camp in Patiala. He then went on to captain the Maharashtra hockey side in the Junior Nationals in 1978 and 1979,and also led the state team in the Senior Nationals in 1980.

According to the All-India Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Sports Committee,Khan has earned the award due to his “continuous and unyielding support to the sport of hockey as well as players around the country”.

The committee also acknowledged his invaluable contribution to the success of the recently concluded All-India Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Memorial Hockey Tournament,and cited his role in furthering our country’s national sport as a major factor in the decision to bestow him with the award.

Khan is proficient in other sports as well,and has represented the district in athletics in the past,even winning a Gold medal in the javelin throw at the state championships.

He has taken up golf,and having rapidly honed his skill at the game,currently plays on the National Circuit with a handicap of 5,and has played several international tournaments in countries like Kenya,Malaysia and Thailand.
