Tension gripped Tarsadi village and neighbouring areas after a statue of Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar was found to be desecrated on Monday morning.
Police have been deployed in the area.
Sources said that Thakore Parmar,a resident of Tarsadi village,went to garland Babasahebs statue near Shraddha Plaza on Monday morning as per his daily routine when he found that some miscreant had pasted mud on the statues face and removed Babasahebs trademark spectacles. Parmar immediately informed the locals and a large crowd gathered in no time.
The police,including senior officials,also rushed to the spot and tried to pacify the angry crowd. The statue was later bathed with milk and water and garlanded. The mob dispersed only after the Kosamba police promised swift action to hunt down the miscreant.
Vijay Ilavia,president of Dalit Sena in Mangrol taluka,said,The police have assured us that they would investigate and catch the suspect. We will also keep a watch during night.
Police sub inspector Dhanji Vaghela said a complaint had been registered and patrolling intensified in the area.
Film festival to host NID students works
AHMEDABAD: Three of the 14 films to be screened at the upcoming Jeevika 2011 Film festival in New Delhi between August 26 and 28 are the works of former and current students of the National Institute of Design. The film festival focuses on the livelihood issues in Asia. The movies are A Dream called America by Anoop Sathyan,Budhan Diaries by K. Harish Singh and Sumangali by NID alumni Pravin Mishra.
