Ambit of SIT probe to cover Sena-BJP rule, says Ajit

Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Tuesday said that the scope of work of the newly-announced special investigation team would extend back to 1995. The Shiv Sena-BJP was in power between 1995 and 1999.

"It was during their rule in 1995 that the five regional irrigation development corporations were formed," Ajit Pawar, said, adding "truth" would come out through the SIT probe. Breaking his silence over allegations of corruption and criticism over his return to the state Cabinet, Pawar said he had not gone beyond his authority while taking decisions. "The SIT will get into cost escalation, tender violations and also see if decisions were overruled without authority. I have made my stand clear that I haven't gone beyond my authority," he said.

"Chitale is an expert on irrigation, and has an impeccable reputation. If he feels that any minister has to answer any wrongdoing, the truth will come out," Pawar, who is yet to be allocated a portfolio, said. He added the SIT would be empowered to decide who was responsible for irregularities, if any, be it Ajit Pawar or Sunil Tatkare.
