As part of America Day celebrations,four diplomats from the US embassy in New Delhi will visit Lucknow from September 13 to 15.
The visit is a part of an all-India initiative in which the US Embassy and Consulate officials travel to different parts of the country to reach out to the people who may not be able to visit the Embassy or Consulates. The initiative was started
in 2007.
They intend to establish a closer rapport with the people in the Indian cities other than the national Capital, said Sudha Gandhi,media coordinator.
From literature to tourism,discussions on climate change and education in US,the people of the City of Nawabs will get a taste of American culture during the three-day programme, said Nishi Pandey,a professor at the Lucknow University,one of the venues which the diplomats will be visiting.
The programme,An Exposition of Talks,Discussion and Educational Events,will showcase a wide range of activities,including screening of messages from US President Barack Obama.
Political Officer Alissa Redmond,Science Officer Matthew Sandelands,Consular Officer Charlie Seten and Economic Affairs Officer Shana Sherry will be representing the Obama administration and will showcase the high points of US culture,economy,and other selling points among the people of the largest state of India.
The four-member team is also scheduled to meet business and social leaders of the city.
On Monday,the delegation will call on Lucknow Universitys vice-chancellor before attending lectures at various departments of the university,said Pandey.
Later,the officials will visit Lucknows leading institutions,including the IIM,where they will interact with the students and answer their queries relating to visa,education in US universities and tourism packages.
A similar kind of interaction will also be conducted with the students of La Martiniere College and Isabella Thoburn (IT) College,said Gandhi.
The delegates will share books,journals and other exhibits related to America with the students.
