
The prime accused in the Kolkata’s American Center attack, Mohammed Sadiq, was brought to the city from Hyderabad and produced before the chief metropolitan magistrate’s court in Bankshal on Sunday.
Sadiq was remanded in four days police custody.
“Sadiq is wanted here in connection with the American Center attack. We have started to interrogate him. We expect to get vital information from him on various cases,” said Rajiv Kumar, Joint Commissioner, Special Task Force of Kolkata police.
The STF expects to get detailed information about the terror networks in Bengal, including the modules of the Indian Mujaheedin. An
accused in the 2002 American Center attack that killed six policemen.
Sadiq alias Sadaqat is a member of the Indian Mujaheedin and believed to be involved in various serial blasts across the country, including in Gujarat and the July 2006 Mumbai serial train blasts.
A native of Azamgarh in Uttar Pradesh, Sadiq was arrested from the Cheetah Camp near Trombay on September 24, 2008 by Mumbai police. Kolkata police then sent a team to Mumbai to question him.
When Mumbai police interrogated Aftab Ansari, the mastermind of the American Center attack, and his accomplices in the Alipore Central Jail it came to light that Sadiq was also linked to the American Center attack.
According to police, it was Sadiq who had gunned down the policemen outside the American Center on the day of the attack. The attack was planned by Amir Reza Khan and Aftab Ansari, who was then based in Dubai.
