America’s learning curve

  • My point is this: We have no doubt a lot to learn from America. For example, the way it promotes research and innovation. The way it has created the world’s best universities. And the way it rewards merit. But we should also acknowledge that America is still on the learning curve as far as many other higher values of human life are concerned. Obama’s victory gives hope that it will learn faster than before. America’s greatest resource, like India’s, is its diversity. Indeed, American society is diversifying so rapidly that whites will no longer constitute a majority in the US population by the year 2042. Immigrants from almost every country in the world are now an integral part of the American melting pot. Which means that the US can, if it wants to, learn and absorb the best things from every country and every culture in the world. Therein lies the real hope for America, and for the rest of the world.

I assure you his is going to be the worst administration and India is not going to be spared. All you pseudo intellectuals are going to get burnt by this Liar.
Obama..the manBy: Bharavi | 18-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward I can understand your frustration as you voted for John McCain (and Hillary C before that)...hee hee hee. But the article is not about Obama. Its about how America has changed and has an ability to learn from its experiences. Obama may turn out to be a failure (I pray not) but so what ? Americans will vote him out after 4 yrs and learn from this experience too and will be more careful next time. But at the present moment, he is the man and he inspires hope in all Americans. And that is the greatest advantage America has today. When did you see such inspiration in so many people around the world? (Except may be when the Berlin wall came down .. then too the Soviet bloc wasn't so happy). Don't be too cynical and enjoy the moment.

America’s learning curveBy: Sameer | 16-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Lets face certain truths1)"But his brilliance ensured no prejudice came in the way of his becoming the principal architect of the Indian Constitution.".This was possible only because India was under British rule.Indian society had heaped enough humiliations on him so that he even decided to give up Hinduism. Also the current position of Dalits in India is pathetic.2 ) It is absurd logic to say that we have three muslim presidents. In India president is lame duck and is a mere constitutional head and he is not elected by popular vote unlike the US president. If we had a Muslim prime minister it would have been a different matter.Agreed America is by no means perfect but instead of patting ourselves on the back , lets face the harsh realities of large scale corruption, hunger and divisions based on language, caste and religion and lets work towards improving India with humility not arrogance
