  • Three days after anticipatory bail granted by a lower court was cancelled by the Supreme Court, DSP N K Amin—accused of playing a role in the disposal of body of Kausar Bi, wife of fake encounter victim Sohrabuddin Sheikh—surrendered before a court on Thursday. Additional Sessions Judge P P Bhatt has sent him to judicial custody till further orders.

After the surrender, Amin’s lawyer Mitesh Amin moved an application that said there was a threat to his life from police officers R H Hadia, V L Solanki and I A Sheikh, all state CID officials investigating the killing of Sohrabuddin. The reason for this threat, however, was not mentioned in the application.

Mitesh said in the court that Amin should not be handed over to CID officials. The judge observed that Amin’s claims were “mere apprehensions”. However, the court later summoned officers from Karanj police station to take Amin to Sabarmati Central Jail.
