The group headed by Amit Shah in Gujarat Cricket Association (GCA) has demanded the resignation of president Narhari Amin saying he should quit on moral grounds as three of the five members of the executive committee of the association have resigned.
The three members who quit the committee are Kantibhai Desai of Valsad, Haneef Patel of Surat and Mehul Patel of Gandhinagar district.
The members representing the Amit Shah group — Dhiraj Jogani, Rajesh Patel, Bharat Dudhia and Ashok Saheba —said that with the defeat of Pinakin Dixit in the Central Board of Cricket Ahmedabad (CBCA) election, the Narhari Amin group has lost its moral standing. They said, only four members of Kheda district were left with the Narhari group.
The members demanding Amin’s ouster said that Sudhir Nanavati, who quit as co-opted member and former GCA vice-president Vikram Patel and joint secretary Hitesh Patel, who lost in CBCA polls, should also not continue as GCA office-bearers.
Among the GCA office-bearers, only Amin and Kheda district representative Bhagubhai Desai are left, they added. “It will be in the interest of the cricketing world if Amin leaves his post as he has lost the confidence of the majority of the members,” they said.
When contacted, Amin confirmed that the three members named by the group had actually resigned along with Nanavati.
“We will wait and watch for some time before taking a final decision because the 2008 election of GCA is already under challenge and our AGM is due for September,” Amin said.
