Filmmaker Amol Palekar is back, this time with a Marathi film. His last Marathi film was Samaantar with Sharmila Tagore as his co-star in 2009. Palekars last release was And Once Again. On July 29,his Dhoosar, made in English as well, hits the screens. The film has already won this years Maharashtra State Awards for Best Film,Best Direction and Best Music. Sandhya Gokhale, the scriptwriter and co-director of the film, said,In my journey as a screenplay writer,Ive tried to handle grey shades of human relationship. Dhoosar unravels various layers of the bond between mother and daughter in a subtle manner. She revealed that the film talks about the Alzheimers Disease and how there is no diagnosis for it yet and why it is mainly the women or a certain community that faces it. After cancer,Alzheimers disease is the next biggest threat, she says. Adds Amol Palekar,Dhoosar is about Alzheimers disease. About 35 million people all over the world are diagonised with the dementia. An equal number of people probably exist who are either unaware of their medical condition or are not being treated for the same. Most of us are unaware of the symptoms of the Alzheimers disease. If Dhoosar succeeds in arousing empathy towards these patients and some sense of obligations towards patient care,we,as filmmakers, will feel fulfilled. The emotional film, shot in Goa,stars Reema,Upendra Limaye,Smita Tambe,Urmila Kanetkar,Amruta Khanvilkar,Dilip Prabhavalkar Rishi Deshpande,Nagesh Bhosale and Jyoti Subhash. n Namita Nivas
