Amritsar judge sat on cases: High Court issues notices to Punjab

It was observed by the court that the number of applications pending for more than a week were 40,whereas the other five sub-judges in Amritsar had no pending application.

On April 8,the court decided that a case be taken up on the judicial side for taking necessary action. As many as 69 judicial cases as well as judgments of 61 cases pertaining to the court of Sra have been attached for taking necessary action in this regard.

While referring the matter to the judicial side,the court has referred to a judgment of 2003 passed against a judicial officer of Haryana. The said officer was held guilty of holding court files and not signing them for a substantial period of time. In the said judgment,the HC had held that it had “no hesitation in holding that by not signing and delivering the judgments the judge committed fraud on his own court. He suffers from vice of fraud which renders all proceedings null and consequently void ab initio”.

Sra’s services as the sub judge of Amritsar were dispensed with on account of “unsatisfactory work and conduct” on December 7,2009,by the Full Court. The HC had decided to refuse confirmation to Sra who was on probation.

On October 4,2009,a case on charges of attempt to murder,dowry harassment,criminal conspiracy and criminal intimidation was registered against Sra and his family. The FIR was registered in Ludhiana on the complaint of Sra’s wife.
