It is easy to dismiss the new Nokia 5130 XpressMusic phone as just another music phone. But, looks can be deceptive, as this sleek beauty is pocket-friendly both in terms of weight and price.
As expected, this phone scores heavily on the music front with crystal-clear sound flowing out of the standard 3.5mm earphones. The phone has dedicated music keys, album art, a five-band equaliser, playlists and supports Bluetooth headphones. Ironically, it does not have a flight mode, standard in music phones of all price ranges these days.
Like most of the mid-range handsets, this phone, too, comes with a 2megapixel camera, with a limited 4x zoom, but minus integrated flash. The phone does not support 3G or Wi-Fi, but can serve as a data modem. It supports MS Outlook updates of calendars, contacts and notes and can send and receive e-mail attachments on the in-built Opera Mini browser.
Instead of the active standby mode, made popular by the S40 and Symbian S60, the 5130 has the four-shortcut screen mode which is not as effective as the former. The phone has an internal memory of 30MB, but comes preloaded with a 1GB microSD card.
Even with a relatively short battery life and inadequate connectivity options, the Nokia 5130 XpressMusic is a good buy for those who love their music on the go. Price Rs 6,699.
