An FIR has been lodged following the complaint of Roshni Anand, who was allegedly assaulted by Alambag police personnel.
Sub-Inspector Subhash Mishra, who was suspended following her complaint, however, has not been named in it.
“The case has been registered on basis of her complaint. Since she did not name any policeman, we lodged a case against unidentified cops,” said AK Jain, Inspector General, Lucknow Range.
Anand, who is not educated, claimed she had named the policemen who misbehaved with her. “It seems that the policemen are trying to shield the sub-inspector. I named of the officer who came to my home,” Anand said.
Anand, a victim of domestic violence, had approached senior police officers after the local police had ignored her complaints against her husband. But the policemen allegedly misbehaved with her and beat her up when they eventually went to arrest her husband on Monday. She had sustained a fracture in her leg.
She also complained that the officers broke open the main door of the house and threw her belongings on the road. Following the complaint, an inquiry was ordered after which Mishra was suspended.
The police have recorded the statements of Anand’s neighbours. They also sent her for a medical examination.
“The police took me to the Balrampur hospital and abandoned me there. It seemed they were annoyed because I had complained against them,” Anand said. Former LU vice-chancellor Roop Rekha Verma, who had taken her to meet senior police officers, had sent a letter to state DIG Vikram Singh requesting him to look into the matter.
