Two days after shifting to the official Chief Minister’s Office at the Secretariat,K Rosaiah on Wednesday shunted out controversial Director General of Police (DGP) S S P Yadav, bringing in DGP,Anti-Corruption Bureau,R R Girish Kumar in his place. Once a favourite of late CM Y S R Reddy,Yadav has now been shifted as Vice-Chairman and Managing Director of Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation. This is a post normally held by lower-rank officers.

In his three-year stint as DGP Yadav,a 1972-batch officer, courted many controversies . But his conduct after YSR’s chopper went missing and subsequent handling of the situation seem to be the final straw. He was accused of being unable to give any credible information on the accident, and allegedly wondering why people were bothered about a missing plane with five persons when “no one abroad bothered if a plane with 300 people goes missing”.

The DGP also drew flak for “poor” security arrangements for YSR’s funeral at Pulivendula. Several VIPs,including Home Minister Sabitha Reddy,TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu and Union ministers, could not reach the funeral as they were stuck in traffic jams. Yadav, who was with Rosaiah on a chopper, said he was not aware of the situation.

During the 2009 polls,Yadav praised YSR while the model code of conduct was in place. He was later transferred by the Election Commission. However, two days after YSR was voted back to power,Yadav was reinstated as DGP.
