Ankon Bhattacharya and Sumana, both of New Public School, Sector 18, claimed the cadet boys' and cadet girls' singles titles, respectively, in the First Bhawan Hawk Chandigarh Table Tennis Ranking Tournament being played under the patronage of the Chandigarh Table Tennis Association at the Sector 23 Table Tennis Hall on Friday.

Ankon Bhattacharya gave a consistent display to clinch the title at the expense of Pankaj Sidhana of St Stephen's School, Sector 45 defeating him by 11-7, 11-8, 8-11 and 11-9 in the cadet boys' singles final. Earlier, in the semi-final, Ankon Bhattacharya blanked Anubhav Bansal of St Kabir School by 11-8, 11-5, 11-6, 11-8 while Pankaj Sidhana, after losing the first game, rallied to oust Parath 9-11, 11-4, 11-5, 11-9.

In an earlier round, top seed Divaksh Dawar of DAV Public School, Sector 8, was upset by Tanmoy of New Public School, Sector 18 by 3-2.

Hitting both sides of the table fluently, Sumanna proved too good for Bhavya of Sacred Heart, Sector 26 in straight games 11-6, 11-1, 11-1 in the cadet girls' singles final. Sumana had earlier pulled off a big upset by toppling top seed Pareen Verma of DAV Public School, Sector 8 by 11-8, 11-1, 9-11, 11-9 in the semi-final contest. In the second semi-final Bhavya recorded a 13-11, 2-11, 11-8, 11-6 verdict against Anshuki Verma.
