Anna,Bedi will meet tomorrow to give new name to movement

Hazare’s Pune-based associates Avinash Dharmadhikari and Vishwambhar Choudhari are also expected to attend the meeting, according to Hazare’s aides in Ralegan Siddhi.

Anna Hazare will hold a meeting with his associate Kiran Bedi in his village Ralegan Siddhi on Friday to decide on a new name for the anti-graft movement which, until his split with Arvind Kejriwal last month, went by the name of India Against Corruption (IAC).

Hazare’s Pune-based associates Avinash Dharmadhikari and Vishwambhar Choudhari are also expected to attend the meeting, according to Hazare’s aides in Ralegan Siddhi.

There has been a tug-of-war with the Kejriwal faction on the claim over the IAC’s name and logo. Volunteers have also been asking Hazare to request Kejriwal to hand over the volunteer database along with Facebook page of the IAC.

“We are trying to get the rights for using the IAC name and logo but it is uncertain if we would be able to get them. In recent media interactions, the Kejriwal-group has been extensively using IAC’s name. So we need to work out a new name for the movement. Annaji and Kiran Bedi will discuss and sort out this issue,” said a source close to Hazare.

The source said Hazare’s NGO Bhrashtachar Virodhi Jan Andolan (BVJA) will act as a secretariat of the movement.

Several other issues such as responsibilities of the BVJA’s New Delhi office that is being set up in a flat lent by Bedi in Jahangirpuri area in New Delhi and the schedule of the volunteer training workshops to be held at Ralegan Siddhi and New Delhi will also be discussed at the meeting.

Meanwhile,Anna nationwide tour which was supposed to kick off in November 2012 is likely to start in January 2013.

“Annaji was supposed to start the tour in November 2012 but the plan had to be postponed to last week of January 2013. His health is not too well and he also underwent an eye surgery last week. It’s very important to establish a nationwide network of volunteers before the tour. Till these things are in place,it wouldn’t be wise to begin the tour,” said an Hazare’s aide.

VK Singh to meet Anna today

Former army chief V K Singh will meet Anna Hazare at Ralegan Siddhi Thursday, according to Hazare’s aides. This would be the first meeting that the 74-year-old activist will participate in after he underwent a minor eye surgery on October 8 in Pune. “Annaji will meet V K Singh around 1 pm on Thursday,” said Datta Awari,Hazare’s aide. Singh’s meeting with Anna in August had led to speculations that the former army chief may join Hazare.

In Pune,Singh will be delivering a lecture on ‘State of the nation and national security’ at an event organised by Lokmanya Multipurpose Co-operative Society.

This is a part of Singh’s three-lecture tour that started with Goa followed by Belgaum and will be culminating in the city at Tilak Smarak Mandir. Sushil Jadhav, zonal manager of Lokmanya, said,“He is one of the rare examples of army officers who have reached the highest levels in military service and are raising their voice against corruption. As a result,we thought of inviting him.”
