Suspected militants hurled a grenade at a wine shop in Narwal area in the city, killing one person and injuring five others — the second attack on a liquor outlet in Jammu and Kashmir within a week.
"Suspected militants hurled a grenade on Monish wine shop which exploded... injuring six persons of which one succumbed to injuries while being taken to hospital," DIG, Jammu-Poonch range, J P Singh said. Preliminary information said the grenade was thrown at 7.10 pm, the police said.
Kuldeep Raj, a resident of Akhnoor, succumbed to injuries while five others — Amarnath, Rajinder Singh, Rakesh Singh, Ramu and Pradeep Kumar — were being treated at GMC hospital.
Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen are suspected to be behind the attack. Security has been beefed up in the area, said the police.
