Another BJP leader raises Gadkari charges, hints he should quit

BJP national executive member Jagdish Shettigar became the latest party leader to comment on the allegations against Nitin Gadkari, saying political parties "do not have the luxury of waiting" for investigations to be over, and suggested that Gadkari resign.

"Since Gadkari has offered to face any inquiry, one tends to believe that he is innocent. But it is for the government agencies to finally clear him, and these investigations take a long time. Political parties, however, do not have the luxury of waiting so long. Bad luck for Gadkari. He should take an appropriate decision as a swayamsevak, who is taught to keep the nation first, the organisation second and personal self last," Shettigar told The Sunday Express.

Hinting that Gadkari should step aside, Shettigar recalled that "Advaniji set an example" of how swayamsevaks should act. L K Advani had resigned from the Lok Sabha after his name surfaced in the hawala controversy.

However, Gadkari found a supporter in Uma Bharti, who attacked Rajya Sabha MP Ram Jethmalani and his son Mahesh for demanding the BJP chief's resignation. "Who should be the BJP president is not something they can dictate," she said. "They are not even members of the forum that decides this."
