Mayawati on Saturday shot off a letter to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, seeking a ban on a book which reportedly portrays Lord Ram and Sita in a bad light.
The book, Culture in Ancient India, which is in the syllabus of Delhi University, reportedly carries objectionable content with regards to Ramayana and has hurt the religious sentiments of the Hindu community.
“There have been protests in many parts of the state over the book... I have written to the PM seeking an immediate ban on the book as no one has the right to distort history,” she said.
Supporting the Sangh Parivar’s campaign against the book, she said her party was with the protesters.
