Another Brick in the Wall

It was formed as one of the first tribute bands in San Francisco, USA, which set off a trend of newer bands converting themselves into tribute bands that perform tributes to a specific band. This band's performances are not only about Pink Floyd's memorable songs but also the Floydian hysteria. The very first concert of House of Floyd (HOF), that was held at a theatre in California in 2006, was completely sold out. Since then, HOF has travelled across various venues in the US with their spectacular performances enhanced with atmospheric effects like lasers, smoke and everything it takes to re-create the Floydian hysteria.

After performing in Delhi and Chandigarh, HOF is on its way to "spread some Floyd" in Lucknow, after which the band will perform in Pune at Hard Rock Cafe on Sunday, September 10.

" I was hooked on to Pink Floyd during my high school days, in the late '60s and early '70s. Then in 1997, they brought in this incredible new concept of 'Animal Tour'. There was a big oval screen playing videos, excellent quality of music, lasers and smoke on the stage, and giant inflatable animals floating around in the auditorium; they created hysteria among the audience," says Mark Showalter, keyboardist, saxophonist and vocalist who toured with rocker Gregg Allman, before founding HOF. Through the songs Dark Side of the Moon, Another Brick in the Wall and The Spaghetti Incident, Pink Floyd garnered a cult fan-following across the world and House of Floyd is one of the bands that aims to keep their legacy alive.

The inception of HOF happened seven years ago, when Allman moved on and Showalter was left with no band. That's when he revisited Floyd and thought of a tribute band. School friend, Sheri Showalter, was roped in and the duo put together all their savings to rent a theatre, hire lasers, smoke machines and projectors to produce a larger than life show as a tribute to Pink Floyd. Others soon joined in and the band now comprises Pat Potter on the guitar, lap steel and vocals; Lou Portela on bass and vocals and Greg Studley on guitar, keyboards and vocals.
