It took 25 fire tenders and around 125 firemen to douse the blaze, which raged for close to three hours, officials said. No casualties were reported in the incident, which godown owners claim to be an act of arson.

According to the owners, goods worth crores were gutted in the fire.

Makhan Lal,guard on duty at Mahalakshmi Plastics, said,“I saw four or five people in a car outside the godown. They threw a bottle that caught fire as it landed. I did not try to chase them as I was scared and thought they might be carrying weapons.” While the police have not confirmed the guard’s allegation,a senior police officer said he suspected the fire to be the work of some miscreants.

Hari,a labourer who works at Yog Plastics, said: “I was sleeping inside the godown when the fire broke out. I called other labourers. We tried to put out the fire but were unable to do so as the fire was too strong.”

Firemen at the spot said they used special chemicals and brought the fire under control by 7.35 am. However, even late in the afternoon fire-fighters were putting out small fires that kept breaking out from under the layers of molten plastic.

On Sunday,a massive fire raging for around 15 hours had broken out in Mundka Industrial Area that gutted an entire plastic scrap market, leading to losses running up to crores. Delhi Fire Chief R C Sharma had said he suspected Sunday’s fire was caused due to sabotage.
