Agartala blasts
A news item titled “Tripura LF Condemns Bomb Blasts in Agartala” says: “Even as the peace loving and democratic minded people of Tripura again placed their trust in the Left Front through the just concluded by-elections to a total 167 seats of various local bodies, the fissiparous forces driven to despair and desperation carried out the first ever serial explosions in the state capital on Oct 1 to trigger terror and communal turmoil on the eve of various socio-religious festivals. The Left Front swept 154 out of the total 167 seats of the local bodies, elections to which have been held on Sept 27. Within a few hours after the declaration of election results, the state capital was traumatised by serial terrorist explosions ripping through a busy bus depot and two market places on Oct 1, 2008.”
The report adds: “ Chief Minister Manik Sarkar and some of his cabinet colleagues visited the spots and the GB Hospital. The state government will bear all the expenses of the treatment for the injured and the police and administration has gone all out to nab the culprits.”
