The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terror Squad on Thursday arrested a man carrying fake Indian currency notes of the face value of Rs 10 lakh from Cantonment area of Varanasi.
Prabhat Kumar Agrawal alias Monty of Gaya district in Bihar used to get the fake notes from Rizaul of Malda district in West Bengal, said ADG (Law & Order) Arun Kumar.
He said that they are coordinating with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the racket behind consignment of fake notes being sent from Bangladesh through Malda to UP. Earlier, the special task force (STF) had arrested six carriers with fake notes of the face value of Rs 20 lakh in Ghaziabad on October 13, while the Government Railway Police had recovered Rs 9 lakh in Faizabad on October 10, he added.
The ADG also said that the fake currency notes recovered in Ghaziabad and Faizabad too were sent from Malda and were delivered by the same gang.
He said that the Malda-based gang gives fake Indian currency notes of the face value of Rs 1 lakh in exchange for Rs 38,000 of Indian currency.
