  • India made it clear on Wednesday that there was no question of it joining US-led military operations in Afghanistan, saying it did not foresee such a situation "now or in the future".

"I am saying categorically that there is no question of Indian military involvement in Afghanistan," Defence Minister A K Antony told reporters here at a Coast Guard event regarding the US suggesting India to join its military operations in the troubled South Asian nation.

"I do not foresee such a situation, not now or in the future," he said to a question if the recent Indo-US army counter-insurgency and anti-terror exercise using tanks and paratroopers was aimed at future joint operations in Afghanistan.

Antony said India was involved in Afghanistan for humanitarian aid, reconstruction and rehabilitation efforts.

At the recent joint military exercise in Babina, Uttar Pradesh, a US Army commander had said that his troops would be comfortable operating with Indian troops in the future anywhere and anytime and that the fortnight-long exercise that ended on Monday was aimed at achieving inter-operability.

INDIAN TROOPS FOR AFGHANISTAN--NO, NEVER !!!!!By: Rajesh Vyas | 29-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Let us sincerely hope that our Best Minister in the Cabinet, Mr. Antony means what he says. We have bo business to spill Indian Blood in Afghanistan. It is a war created by the USA, abetted by Pakistan (WHO IS PLAYING BOTH SIDES OF THE DISC SIMULTANEOUSLY). Manmohan Singh should accept any pressure from OBAMA and send Indian troops to Afghanistan under any and all circumstances. One BALOCHISTAN gaffe was bad enough, sending troops to Afghanistan will not be a GAFFE, it will be an HIMALYAN BLUNDER for India and even a greater blunder for Manmohan Singh personally.
Indian Army not to join Military operations in Afghanistan - AnthonyBy: A. Pradeep | 29-Oct-2009 Reply | Forward Well spoken Minister Anthony! The Indian Army is for showcase purposes only. The country's security and strategic interests can easily be tackled by appealing to the international community and the UN for help. There is no need for the army to fight anywhere.
