  • Anurag Agarwal, a Haryana-cadre IAS officer and currently the managing director of DHBVN, has been posted as the Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon to fill in during the leave period of present DC R K Kataria.

The Office of Gurgaon Deputy Commissioner received the order on Monday.

Unlike the norm, when the ADC assumes charge if the DC goes on leave, the move was necessitated in the view of upcoming state Assembly elections.

Kataria is on leave from September 14 to October 23; the officer in-charge will also have to serve as the district election officer in the meantime.

Confirming the posting, Haryana Chief Secretary Dharam Vir told Newsline: “His name had been proposed by the state authorities and approved by the Election Commission of India.”

Earlier, the ECI had rejected the names suggested by the state government and directed the government to post G Anupama, whose name was not recommended by the government, to the post.

The posting of G Anupama, however, could not materialise as he was senior to the Gurgaon Divisional Commissioner D P S Nagal.

Following this, the state authorities proposed Agarwal’s name, which was accepted by the ECI. Agarwal has served as Deputy Commissioner of Gurgaon earlier as well.
