AP: 36 kids take ill after suspected food poisoning

The children,mostly aged between 3 and 7 years,are from a slum in Miyapur area.

As many as 36 children were hospitalised with symptoms of food poisoning after they consumed food from a road-side vendor in Miyapur area this morning,officials said.

The children,mostly aged between 3 and 7 years,are from a slum in Miyapur area and had complained of vomiting and giddiness after eating idli and dosa from the vendor. Around 15 children also developed convulsions later.

Medical and Health Officer (Hyderabad district) Jaya Kumari said medical teams visited the area and shifted the children to the state-run Niloufer and Osmania General Hospital.

“The children are being provided treatment and the condition of those hospitalised is stable,” she said adding that three children are being given intensive treatment.

Blood samples have been taken and other tests conducted on the children to ascertain whether it is a case of food-poisoning. “It will take at least 2 to 3 days for the children to completely recover,” she added.
