State Congress president Captain Amarinder Singh on Tuesday demanded that Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Badal should apologise to the nation in general and the women kabaddi players in particular for the treatment meted out to them after winning the Kabbadi World Cup.

In a statement,Amarinder said that the deputy CM was “indulging in self-congratulatory gloating over his kabbadi cup”. The tournament became infamous for its “semi-nude” dances, doping scandals and at the end humiliating treatment to the women team,he added.

“The women kabbadi players had to take an auto, with their trophies in hand, after winning the final match against England in Ludhiana,as the authorities had made no arrangements for their transportation. If Sukhbir still feels this is nitpicking,I really pity his sense of judgment. Though I do not recognise it to be a world cup,I still have all the respect for kabbadi players. It is not just humiliation to team members but the entire country whom they were representing,” said Amarinder.

“You represent a political party that claims to watch the panthic interests. May be you have changed the definition of panthic interests,as you have changed the definition of panthic values to suit your personal convenience,” he added.
