  • Temple demolition
Gujarat Govt, in the past week, has brought down over 90 religious structures, mostly temples.

Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi has ordered a ban on temple demolition in the state with immediate effect. Modi's move came after his meeting with VHP President Ashok Singhal on Friday.

Singhal met Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi to convey his concerns about the demolition of large number of temples in Gandhinagar.

The state Government in the past week has brought down over 90 religious structures, mostly temples, annoying saffron groups — VHP, Bajrang Dal and others — and a section of politically inclined sadhus.

The Government action has displeased the saffron workers to such an extent that VHP’s national leader Ashok Singhal, who was here to do spot assessment of the situation, had to calm their frayed nerves.

Singhal had been trying to broker peace between the saffron outfits which are at loggerheads, sources in the BJP and VHP said.

Singhal had criticised the BJP Government, saying that it was repeating the act of Mohammad Gazani, who had destroyed a number of temples in medieval Gujarat.

Modi and VHPBy: Naveed | 22-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Where are those who praised Narendra Modi for demolishing the temples for the sake of development? I would like to see their comments. What could they say? Poor chaps!! don't understand the 'drama baazi' between Mr. Modi and the VHP. Next time, don't be in a hurry to post your comments. Wait for a day or two for the scenario to takes a U-turn.
Modi stops demolition By: P Neri | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward This seems to be a game plan of VHP, BJP, Bajrang Dal and others to fool the people. Is it not strange that it took the "wise man" Ashok Singhal more then 15 days to make a tamasha on the road and then meet Modi? All Encroachments that had to be removed have already been removed.

From Osama-bin-Laden to Gujarat-bin-VHPBy: DALEEP/FRANCE | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward Under the cover of religious sites some politicians and facist religious leaders are breaking each and every law of India. Not only they spread the seeds of hatred, but they are also trying to protect terrorists. It is really sad. In the name of God they like Osama-bin-laden are injecting all kind of rubbish to implement decent laws to protect the common person.
Hindu temple must not be sacrificial lambBy: DILIP/FRANCE | 21-Nov-2008 Reply | Forward There is lot of ignorance and misconception about Messianic Modi. Yobs who criticise him for the sake of political correctness, are extremely misguided and have lost the plot. There is a Chinese saying it matters little,if the cat is balck or white as long as the cat is able to catch the mice.Likewise Modi's exempleryrecord on state development and progress is next to none. There is no comparable right now in India, that is why Gujrat is the jewel in India's crwon making a contribution of 19% to GDP.The fact that the friuts of the social and economic dvelopments of Gujarat is beinged milked by all communities, that is valid proof of his credentials.Modi I am sure does not need any certificate from pseudo seculars. His works does the taking. Yes hindu temples must not be demolished will nilly, wherever practicable must be preserved.Hindu culture and heritage is not to undermined but must be cherished.
