ARAI announces expansion plan in city

Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI) on Friday announced its expansion plans in the city and said it will spend Rs 300 crore in the next three years as part of the plan. The plan includes upgrading facilities in its existing plants and also setting up a new plant.

"In the next three years, we will set up a facility lab for power train and passive safety technology in our already existing facility at Chakan. We are also planning to set up a new plant in Kesurdi," said Shrikant Marathe, director, ARAI. "We have successfully developed three cylinder engines which can be used in Light Commercial Vehicles and cars," he added.

The association will also organise the 13th edition of Symposium on International Automotive Technology (SIAT) from January 9-12 which will be inaugurated by Praful Patel, Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises.

Technologists, researchers and scientists from automotive and allied industry and academia from across the globe will discuss various advanced automotive technologies for safer, cleaner and quieter vehicles.

The theme of SIAT-2013 is 'towards safer, cleaner and quieter world'. Focus of the symposium will be on innovative advancements in automotive technologies to meet future challenges and explore various areas to design and develop environment-friendly automobiles. Also, the symposium will cover other aspects such as engines, alternative fuels, electronics, structural evaluation, vehicle engineering, materials, etc. Over 195 technical papers, including 36 keynote papers will be presented at the symposium.

As part of the event, a BRICS session will be organised on January 11 where a panel comprising technical experts from BRICS countries will discuss 'challenges and opportunities in global automotive technology areas'.

As many as 1,500 delegates from various national & international organisations are expected to participate in the event.

Engineering students too can participate in poster presentation sessions. Symposium will be organised in association with SAEINDIA, NATRiP and SAE International.
