The Indian men’s team are in good form going into the Archery World Cup Stage III to be held in Antalya, Turkey from Wednesday. The men’s recurve team got a boost after Jayanta Talukdar’s gold medal in the World Cup Stage II at Porec and the recurve team of Talukdar, Rahul Banerjee and Mangal Singh Champia will once again be India’s best bet in the tournament.
The recurve section, however, will see a strong field with 2008 Olympic champion Viktor Ruban of Ukraine and 2004 gold medallist Marco Galiazzo of Italy.
Dola Banerjee will lead the Indian women’s recurve challenge, with Natalia Valeeva of Italy, Porec stage winner Zhao Ling of China among the possible threats.
In men’s compound category, Canada’s Dietmar Trillus is currently going through a purple patch while 2008 finalist in Lausanne Ivana Buden of Croatia is tipped as favourite to clinch the women’s gold medal.
