A 22-year-old woman was allegedly stabbed to death by her friend in Patel Nagar area of Central Delhi on Thursday night.
Police sources said the incident occurred around 8 pm inside a girls’ hostel in Patel Nagar. The victim, Kavita Chauhan, was allegedly stabbed several times by her friend Kapil Sharma, 23, after the two had a fight over “personal issues”, the police said.
“We got a call around 8 pm last night that a woman was stabbed and died on the spot. We were told that her friend, Kapil Sharma, is suspected to be behind the murder,” a police officer said.
The police said they traced Sharma’s address to Mongolpuri, where his brother provided them information on his whereabouts.
“We nabbed Kapil from Mongolpuri area and he later confessed to committing the crime,” a senior police officer said. “Kapil had injury marks on his body and probably tried to commit suicide after the murder.”
During interrogation, Sharma claimed the two often fought over personal issues. He suspected that Kavita was having a relationship with someone else.
On Thursday, they reportedly met to talk over the same issue at a park near the hostel. After a while, however, Kavita decided to return to her room. Sharma, in a fit of rage, followed her inside the hostel and stabbed her at least six times.
The Deputy Commissioner of Police (Central Delhi) Jaspal Singh said, “Kapil has been arrested. We handed over the woman’s body to her family at 2 pm on Friday.”
