The Calcutta High Court on Thursday said Tata Motors Limited’s petition challenging the Singur Land Development and Rehabilitation Act 2011 would be heard from Friday as the West Bengal government did not oppose the company’s amendment application.

During hearing, the state government did not oppose Tata Motors’ plea to amend the original petition filed by the company on June 22,following which Justice Saumitra Pal directed that the matter would be taken up for hearing from Friday.

Tata Motors had on July 4 filed an application seeking the court’s permission to amend its original petition filed on June 22. It claimed that the original petition was filed in a great hurry.

In compliance with the High Court order, the state government filed an affidavit on July 11 in response to the Tata application. On Thursday,Advocate General Anindya Mitra said the state would not oppose the Tata plea to amend the original petition.

Mitra said the high court could hear the amended petition but some facts like mention of the Singur Act could be incorporated.

In the original petition,Tata Motors challenged the Singur Bill as the Act was not in force at that time. He requested the HC to hear the Tata petition from Friday.
