Arjun Singh to lay foundation stone of IIT Ropar

  • Union Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh will be laying the foundation stone of the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Birla farm in Ropar on February 24.

    Ropar Deputy Commissioner B Purushartha said Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal would also accompany Arjun Singh for the foundation stone laying ceremony.

    The DC reviewed the arrangements being made for the ceremony during a meeting of the officers of various departments on Thursday. He also visited the proposed 513 acre IIT site at Birla farm.

    Earlier, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh was to lay the foundation stone of the IIT in September last year. His visit had to be, however, postponed due to blasts in Delhi.

    The first year classes of three BTech courses have already started at mentor IIT Delhi which would be shifted to Government Polytechnic for Girls, Ropar building this year where it would continue till the IIT campus at Birla farm gets ready.
