The flood situation in Assam has suddenly turned from bad to worse overnight with the Brahmaputra damaging embankments and inundating over 200 villages,affecting over 1.5 lakh people in just two districts.

An old woman lost her life after being washed away in Tinsukia district,taking the toll up to 10 in the second wave of floods that has hit several Assam districts since last week. The flood has also caused extensive damage to roads,bridges and government and private property.

In Dhemaji,the Brahmaputra caused a breach of about 100 metres near Machkhowa,with the flood affecting nearly 35,000 people in 41 villages. In Sisiborgaon,the population affected has been put at about 17,000.

In Tinsukia on the southern bank,the Brahmaputra has left over 30,000 people marooned in the Amarpur circle in Sadiya subdivision.

Incessant rain has cut off several districts in Arunachal Pradesh with landslides taking away roads,houses and bridges.
