Army chief calls for ‘iron fist in a velvet glove’ policy in Kashmir
Army chief also asks soldiers to be extra vigilant against terror acts.
Asking troops to be extra vigilant against miscreants trying to malign army’s image,Chief of Army staff (COAS) General V.K. Singh stressed on the policy of iron fist in a velvet glove.
There is need for the policy of iron fist in a velvet glove, Gen Singh said in his address to the troops on the Line of Control (LoC) in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
Although the terrorists have taken a severe beating in the region over the last few years and their morale is at the lowest ebb,they still retain the capability to calibrate the level of violence, he said.
He asked the officials to be alert and ensure the safety of locals while conducting combat operations.
The army chief said there was a need to ensure zero human rights violation and to be extra vigilant so as to not fall into the trap of miscreants aiming to malign the image of the army.
He reviewed the ongoing counter infiltration operations on the LOC and interacted with troops deployed there.
He expressed satisfaction over the strict vigil being maintained by the troops on the border.
