An Army Jawan was drowned while five other military personnel washed away in the water currents of flash flood in Begna Nadi near village Brargarh under Naraingarh PS late on Tuesday night. The incident occurred when an advance team of an Army unit with two vehicles one heavy truck and one jeep,had reached Baragaon open grounds at around 9.30 pm. Both the vehicles were parked on the bank of Begna Nadi passing near the village.
Following heavy rains in the mountains,the Nadi was flooded and started overflowing the banks at around 3.30 am. Both Army vehicles were washed away with six jawans sleeping in these. The current of water was so strong that both the vehicles drowned in water and the jeep was swept for a long distance. The jawans also were swept and there was no clue of them till the water started receding.
The Army forces who had reached on receiving information,started search and saved five jawans from drowning while the sixth was found drowned near village Banaundi. His body was recovered by the Army divers and was taken to Military hospital. The others were also rushed to MH for treatment. The police reached the spot but were not allowed to have access to the scene of incident.
Mediapersons were also kept away till the dead body and injured jawans were sent to the MH. Sub divisional authorities had also visited the spot without having interaction with Army officers who refused to seek assistance. It was basically a tactical exercise to be conducted over a period of 48 hours. It was around 4 am in the morning when the flash floods occurred. Two vehicles were caught in the floods. The Commanding Officer was himself involved in the rescue operation. It is still going on.
