The Special Cell of Delhi Police today claimed to have arrested an Indian Army havaldar for passing on sensitive defence documents to Pakistani officials.
The accused, Anil Kumar Dubey (34), was arrested from Mahipalpur. The police had also detained Mohammed Farooq who works at the Pakistani High Commission in the capital. Dubey had been allegedly handing over sensitive documents to Farooq for the past six months.
The police claims that on Saturday, Farooq came in his official car to Grand Hotel in Vasant Kunj. He parked his vehicle at the hotel and took an auto-rickshaw to go to Mahipalpur. In Mahipalpur, at a pre-decided location Farooq met Dubey.
“We had a tip-off that Dubey would be meeting Farooq and laid a trap. We arrested Dubey red-handed while he was handing over another consignment of secret documents,” said Alok Kumar, DCP (Special Cell).
The police have handed over Farooq to the Pakistan High Commission as he enjoys diplomatic immunity. Farooq had joined the Pakistan High Commission three years back.
Dubey, meanwhile, has been booked under the Official Secrets Act and for criminal conspiracy, and was later remanded to five days police custody by the duty magistrate at Tis Hazari court in Delhi.
“We are trying to ascertain the magnitude of the information passed by Dubey to Farooq. A CD and a few other documents have been recovered from him,” Kumar added.
Dubey’s arrest comes three months after three people were arrested for security breach at the National Security Council Secretariat (NSCS).
