Armymen, porters in Uri still missing

  • With its men still missing, the Army flew special choppers sorties on Sunday in the snowcapped mountains of Uri region to locate them. As many as seven Armymen, including a Junior Commissioned Officer (JCO) and eight porters, are feared dead after the Army’s counter insurgency bunkers were swept away by avalanches and snowstorm on the Line of Control at Rajput Tekri in Uri sector on Tuesday.

    Meanwhile, The search for the missing Norwegian tourist Franciska Rongne, 38, continued for the sixth consecutive day on Sunday in the mountains of Gulmarg and Kangdori. On Saturday, helicopters, snow brooding machines and sniffer dogs were put into service to look for her. “We are using latest equipment and technique to trace the Norwegian skier,” said J-K’s Tourism Director, Farooq Shah.”Our rescue teams resumed the search but failed to trace her,” he said, adding that search will continue till midnight.
