Arogya Mela evokes good response on opening day

The Arogya Mela which is the ninth such event in the country aimed at promoting the Indian system of medicine,opened to a good response at the SCD Government College ground today even though the visitors were less than expected because of lack of publicity.

The organisers are however hoping the number of visitors would increase substantially over the weekend and compensate for the delay in advertising about the fair.

The function has been organised by the Department of Ayurveda,Yoga,Unani,Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH),Ministry of Health and Family Welfare,Government of India and Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI).

The visitors made a beeline at the free Ayurvedic and Homeopathic OPDs to get the check ups done along with the free medicines being distributed with the prescription.

The health fair was inaugurated by A.R. Talwar,principal secretary,Health. Speaking on the occasion,he said that the fair would promote and propagate and showcase the strenght and potential of Indian system of medicines among the common man.

The fair also gives the manufacturers of Ayurvedic,Siddha,Unani and Homeopathy medicines to interact with the practitioners and consumers. There are various diseases which have a more effective treatment options in the Indian systems of medicines and therefore the fair will prove to be an eye-operner for the visitors, said Talwar. As many as 70 manufactuerers are showcasing their products with variety and range in the fair.

The principal secretary added that the city was selected keeping in view its importance as a major commercial and industrial hub so as to create awareness among general public about the traditional systems of Indian medicine. Among those present at the inaugural ceremony were CS Talwar,commissioner,AYUSH and special secretary,health,Rakesh Sharma,director,Ayurveda,Punjab,Devinder Singh,ADC,Harish Kumar,SP (HQ),SP Sharma,civil surgeon,Ashwani Kumar director AYUSH and Balwinder Singh Sahani from FICCI.
