Pimpri saw the sixth swine flu death since April this year,with the death of Yashwant Zagade,65,from Kazad Bori,Indapur who was undergoing treatment at YCM Hospital. Thirteen deaths have been reported in PMC area since April,taking the total to 19 in Pune and Pimpri.
Officials,however,point out that several persons suffering from swine flu had sought treatment from outside Pune and Pimpri,but were admitted to hospitals here later.
Zagade was admitted on September 23,as he was also suffering from hypertension and succumbed to swine flu on September 25. The analysis of the throat swab sent to the National Institute of Virology (NIV) on September 26 tested positive for swine flu.
Since April this year,about 1.32 lakh people have been screened for swine flu at Pune Municipal Corporation health centres. Tamiflu was administered on 23,039 persons. Out of 2,000-odd throat swab samples sent for testing for H1N1 virus,347 tested positive.
At present,13 persons are undergoing treatment at various hospitals in the city. In the PCMC area,a total of 15,055 persons were administered Tamiflu and of the 261 samples sent for confirmation for H1N1 virus,73 tested positive.
