Around Town : Pollution board seals another hotel

Hotel Peninsula was sealed by the HSPCB in violation of Section 24 and 25 of the Water Act.

A day after Haryana State Pollution Control Board (HSPCB) sealed a five-star hotel,KC Royal Park in Sector 3,another hotel in Sector 8 was sealed on Thursday for allegedly discharging ‘untreated water in sewerage’. Hotel Peninsula was sealed by the HSPCB in violation of Section 24 and 25 of the Water Act. Sources said that,the HSPCB is likely to take action against more restaurants and hotels for discharging untreated waste water in Panchkula.

Mohan recorded

CHANDIGARH: The statements of former NCB Director Saji Mohan was recorded at a local court on Thursday. The statement of NCB Inspector Gurdas Ram was also recorded. He deposed before the court that the power to withdraw money was with Mohan and Balvinder. Saji and other officials of NCB were booked in 2009,under the NDPS Act for pilfering the contraband,seized from various places in Punjab and Jammu and Kashmir. A corruption case was also registered against him.

UT,MC employees protest for flats

Chandigarh: The UT and MC employees under the Sangharsh Committee held a protest demonstration at Sector 17,on Thursday,in support of the allotment of flats to the unsuccessful employees under UT Employees Self Financing Housing Scheme and implementation of complete Punjab scales and rules to employees.

Four acquitted in kidnapping case

CHANDIGARH: A local court,on Thursday,acquitted four accused in a kidnapping case,due to lack of evidence. Those acquitted have been identified as Jatinder,Pritpal,Gurvinder and Amit Kumar. Earlier,the victim had turned hostile in court. The case dates back to February last year,when four youth in a white Zen car allegedly kidnapped taxi driver Mandeep Singh (25),a resident of Barnala district. The police recovered the abandoned Indica taxi of Mandeep from near the high school.

Woman accuses warder of attempted rape

CHANDIGARH: A 35-year-old resident of Rampurphool accused a warder of the Jail Police,Bathinda,of trying to outrage her modesty at PGI. According to Police,the accused had brought a diabetes patient,the victim’s husband,from Bathinda Jail to the hospital on March 19. She lodged a complaint with the police,who have arrested the accused. A case has been registered at the Sector 11 police station.

Indian,Pak human rights activists meet

Chandigarh: The International Human Rights Wing met the team of human right activists from Pakistan on Thursday. The international human rights wing informed the team of visiting activists about Indian prisoners in Pakistan jails like Sarabjeet who have been given death sentence by the Pakistani courts. They appealed them to work for such prisoners so that they can come back home. The delegation was also asked for list of citizens of Pakistan,imprisoned and living in the Indian jails.
