Ex-DGP P S Gill vacates house
Chandigarh:With the UT Estate Office getting the possession of house number 500, Sector 16 on Thursday, after a long wait, finally the leader of opposition in Punjab assembly, Sunil Jakhar is set to get the possession of the official house which was till now in possession of former DGP P S Gill. He was recently allotted the said house but was unable to move in since the former Punjab top cop was occupying it way beyond his tenure's end. The UT Administration had recently completed the eviction proceedings against Gill. On his part, Gill had conveyed to the UT administration that he will vacate the premises on October 16. However, he vacated it only on Wednesday. Jakhar had been running from pillar to post to get an official residence allotted to him for many months now.
Punjab Roadways drivers block traffic
Chandigarh:Punjab Roadways drivers on Thursday created a traffic jam at the round about of Sector 29 and 31 after a Traffic Police official misbehaved with a driver of a Punjab Roadways bus. According to police, Head Constable Fakir Chand of the Traffic Police tried to challan the bus driver for crossing the zebra-crossing at the light point on the round about. Following a heated argument, the drivers of Punjab Roadways and the travelers of the bus caused a traffic jam for 30 minutes. The traffic had to be diverted. However, the two reached a compromise.
Green belt inaugurated
Chandigarh:Mayor Raj Bala Malik inaugurated a green belt in Sector 9 on Thursday. The total covered area of the green belt is 5.56 acre. It was built at a cost of Rs 45 lakh. Councillors and officials of the MC were present on the occasion.
