  • Train accident averted in Mathura

    A major train accident was averted in Mathura on Sunday afternoon when the coupling and buffer of a bogey of Delhi-bound Kerala Express were broken dividing the train into two. There was little damage as the train had just started from Mathura junction and was moving slowly, Area Manager of NER K G Goshwami said. The damage could have been massive had the train gained momentum, he said.

    Ghaziabad student goes missing

    A 20-year-old B Tech student went missing from Kavi Nagar area of Ghaziabad on Sunday morning. “Apurva had gone out of his house in C-block on a bicycle around 6 am today after which he has not returned,” the police officer said. Apurva’s father, Yogender S Jayant, is a local BSP leader. A senior police officer said that a complaint has been registered at Kavi Nagar police station and investigations are on.

    Boxer-turned-robber arrested in Delhi

    A 24-year-old boxer, allegedly involved in over 10 cases of robbery and extortion, was arrested in the Capital, police said on Sunday. Ved Prakash, alias Sonu Boxer, a resident of Delhi’s Khajhawala area, was arrested from Vasant Vihar yesterday following investigations. Two sophisticated pistols and a robbed car were recovered from him. “He claims to have represented Delhi at the National Junior Boxing Championship where he won a silver medal around 2001-02,” a senior police official said.

    NGO man booked for using fake I-cards

    A man running an NGO has been booked for allegedly using forged identity cards of various ministries, the police said Sunday. The case was registered following a tip-off from the Ministry of Home Affairs to Delhi Police. The case, under Sections 171 (wearing garb or carrying token used by public servant with fraudulent intent) and 468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) was registered on Friday at the Parliament Street police station against Chaudhary Jamshed Alam.
