Arrested ISI agent names ‘moles’ in Army

Suspected ISI agent, who was arrested from Patna, has confessed that a serving Army sepoy posted at Secunderabad's EME Centre and a retired Armyman in J-K were his 'prime source of information'.

Suspected ISI agent Sushanshu Sudhakar, who was arrested from Patna on Tuesday, has confessed to the police that a serving Army sepoy posted at EME Centre,Secunderabad and a retired Armyman in J&K were his “prime source of information”.

“We will contact Army headquarters to verify the names and their alleged links with Sudhakar. Revealing identities of the Armymen named by him would not be proper at this stage of investigation,” a police officer said.

Sudhakar has also confessed to his links with Rana,a Nepalese citizen who had employed him and reportedly paid him up to Rs 50,000 for information,Patna SSP Vinit Vinayak said. The accused also told the police that Rana was an ISI conduit.

With Sudhakar in custody, the police now need to crack down on ISI operatives working in the bordering districts of Sitamarhi and Madhubani. Sudhakar,a resident of Sitamarhi ,is the fourth big catch from Bihar in last three years. In June this year,Mohammed Omar Madni,a resident of Madhubani and top aide of LeT founder Hafiz Saeed, was arrested in Delhi. Kamal Ansari, also from Madhubani, was arrested in July 2006 in connection with the Mumbai train blasts.

Meanwhile, border security and intelligence agencies in Kutch have been put on alert after sensitive military maps, plans and documents related to troop and weapons deployment on the western sector, especially in Gujarat’s border areas were recovered from Sudhakar.

This is the second instance in the past two years where an alleged ISI agent spying in Kutch has been arrested. In February 2007,Kutch police had arrested two Pakistanis — Adil Anjum and Nazir Ahmed Batti alias Yakub Haladi — and their two Indian contacts.

Bihar Police, sources said, has told the Gujarat police that Sudhakar visited Bhuj in April this year and met three men who have links with the Army. “It has been learnt that Sudhakar stayed at Raj Guest House in Bhuj for a couple of days in April. He may possibly have visited some other areas,” a senior police official said.
