Arrested RAW director gets bail in trespass case

A gurgaon court has granted bail to Nisha Priya Bhatia (55),a director with the Research and Analysis Wing here who is currently under suspension. She was arrested on Tuesday and was sent to 14 days judicial custody in Bhondsi Jail by the court.

A gurgaon court has granted bail to Nisha Priya Bhatia (55),a director with the Research and Analysis Wing (RAW) here who is currently under suspension. She was arrested on Tuesday and was sent to 14 days judicial custody in Bhondsi Jail by the court.

Bhatia was booked under Sections 451 (house trespass in order to commit offence punishable with imprisonment),323 (punishment for voluntarily causing hurt) and 268 (public nuisance) of the Indian Penal Code based on the complaint of an IAS officer,the Gurgaon police said.

We had received several complaints about her in the past,but it was on the complaint of N Sadanand,Under Secretary in the Cabinet Secretariat and Uma Narayan Mishra,director (Training),RWA,that an FIR was lodged on October 30 at the Sector 17-18 police station, DCP (West) Rakesh Arya said.

When asked what took the police so long to place Bhatia under arrest,the police said that they needed time to carry out investigations and make video clips.

Bhatia is the Director (Language) with RAW and lives in Sector 18 here. She was in the news in August last year for attempting suicide in front of the Prime Ministers Office after being denied entry to register a complaint regarding her allegations of sexual harassment by colleagues in the intelligence agency. Bhatia claimed she was frustrated by the apathy shown by the RAW as well as the government towards her complaints.

A statement issued by the Cabinet Secretariat in August last year had,however,refuted Bhatias charges,after a committee set up to probe her allegations found no proof to substantiate her claims.
