Arson case: Cong leader alleges Maya govt filed 4 cases to deter him

Former general secretary of Uttar Pradesh Congress Rajveer Singh Verma alias Titu — whose car was burned during the arson at the then Congress state president Rita Bahuguna Joshi's house in 2009 — has alleged that to deter him from pursuing the case, the then Mayawati-led government filed about four cases against him.

On Tuesday, a court ordered the district police to lodge an FIR against five persons, including two BSP leaders and three cops, for their alleged involvement in the incident. "After the incident I tried to register a case but some officers under the then Mayawati government tried to deter me by filing four cases," Rajveer told mediapersons on Thursday. "And now, the registering of the case regarding burning of my vehicle after three years clearly indicates that the other four cases were registered to unnecessarily lodged to disturb and exploit me so that I get entangled in these cases and don't pursue the arson case," he said.

"Due to the cases my family broke down; my house and the school that I ran were seized and it is affecting the education of my children," he said. Cases under Gangster Act, Excise Act and two other cases under various sections of the IPC were lodged against him between 2011-12, he said.

"I request the CM to take back these cases; and, if nothing happens, I'm ready to go to high court and also ask for CBI inquiry," he said. On Wednesday, UPCC had demanded a CBI inquiry in both the cases.
