The ruling CPM though today admitted that there has been a spurt in the incidents of violence in the state, it said there was no such condition that calls for imposition of President’s rule by the Centre.
“Please go through the Constitution of India. It has clearly stated on what condition the Centre can impose Article 356. I do not think such a condition prevails,” Bose told mediapersons on Thursday.
Reacting to Union Home Minister P Chidambaram’s statement in which he had advised the state government to ensure law and order in the state following Wednesday’s clashes between the Trinamool and CPM supporters in Arambagh, Bose said: “I have not heard or read what Chidambaram has said. If he has given such advice, the state government should deal with the situation accordingly. As per the Constitution, the responsibility of maintaining law and order lies with the state government.”
Launching a scathing attack on Trinamool Congress, Bose said: “The Trinamool Congress is working against democracy and peace in the state. They are killing our people to terrorise common man. The party is creating lawlessness in the state since 2006 and resorting to falsehood to mislead the people.”
