Arunachal Pradesh set to be major tourist draw

Noting that works in progress to develop Arunachal Pradesh economically, with a specific focus on tourism, Governor Gen (retd) JJ Singh today urged Singapore based Indian businessmen to take advantage of opportunities in the state.

"Arunachal is resource rich and offer opportunities to participate in tourism, agricultural and horticultural sectors," Gen Singh said during launch of his autobiography 'A Soldier's General' at the India Club here.

"Arunachal is good for planting rubber trees and tea," he added, stressing that the state was pollution-free with clean water.

Infrastructure including highways, airport and railway line were being set up to boost the state's economy.

Describing Arunachal Pradesh as a gold mine waiting for development, he called on Singapore-based Indian businessmen to invest in the state to take advantage of the opportunities.

But Gen Singh stressed the importance of pacing the development so that the people of Arunachal can absorb it.

He said he would not want to see a fast pace development impacting the serene environment and the cultural as well as society strata of the Arunachal peoples.

Arunachal Pradesh would also be the main draw in North East India's links through Myanamar to ASEAN region, he said.

Gen Singh is in Singapore as part of his address at the closed-door workshop of the Institute of South Asian Studies on North East Asia-South East Asia Connectivity.
